Aikido Eastside Martial Arts & Self Defense
Classes for Children

Young Girl in Childrens ClassAikido is an especially wonderful martial art for children and teens. It is a non-violent, non-competitive martial art which focuses on harmonious body movement and balance control rather than destructive striking techniques for self defense. It is a form of self defense based on the study of "connection". Children learn respect for themselves and their classmates, self discipline, and confidence. Effective ways to deal with bullies without fighting are also brought into the curriculum. The training is carried on in a friendly, coed atmosphere with children of all age levels training together. Parents are greatly encouraged to participate in the training with their children.

Aikido training is largely done with partners. The kids learn to how to cooperate rather than compete in order to mutually progress. More experienced students help with the newer students. Older members care for the younger. They quickly learn that to progress they must work together. Feel free to come and observe any time during class hours!

My teen-aged son is in his sixth year at the dojo. With each year,
my appreciation grows for the art of aikido, and also for your
presence as teachers.

The older my son gets, the more contrasts I see between aikido and
other choices he could make. Also, I see how what he learns in the
dojo applies outside the dojo.

Aikido - the way of peace - is what we, as parents, want for our son
and other young people. Your dojo is exactly the kind of environment
that parents hope to find for their young people. We know that none
of it happens by accident. We do not take it for granted.

Thank you.

There is no doubt that 7+ years of Aikido training are helping my son with the academic rigors of junior year in high school. Pre-calculus homework.... Chemistry homework... history homework.... it IS randori (an Aikido practice with multiple partners). - Mom of one of our senior kids
